India Condemns Renewed Israel-Iran Escalation, Calls for Immediate De-escalation and Diplomatic Resolution
India has condemned the renewed military escalation between Israel and Iran following fresh exchanges of strikes in West Asia. Calling for immediate de-escalation and a diplomatic resolution, India highlighted the humanitarian and economic consequences of the prolonged conflict while issuing a travel advisory for its citizens in Iran amid growing regional tensions.
Expressing deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the fresh attacks have heightened tensions across the region and raised alarm within the international community. In an official statement, the ministry said that India deeply regrets the renewed attacks in West Asia and described the developments as a matter of serious concern.
The government underscored the severe humanitarian and economic consequences of the prolonged conflict, noting that the crisis has continued for more than 100 days and has already caused immense human suffering. It further stated that the ongoing hostilities have had a debilitating impact on the global economy and energy supplies, adding to international concerns over regional stability.
Reiterating its longstanding position, India called on all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure the protection of civilians and conclude ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a diplomatic solution. The ministry emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential for restoring peace and stability in the region.
Amid the renewed violence, the Indian Embassy in Iran issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid travelling to Iran. The embassy also advised Indian citizens currently in the country to leave by any available means of transport in view of the latest developments.
The latest escalation followed Iran’s strike on Israel on Sunday after Tehran warned of action over repeated attacks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against Lebanon. The conflict between Lebanon and Israel has remained a significant front in the wider regional crisis, with Israel continuing military operations while Tehran has maintained that a ceasefire in Lebanon is crucial for securing a broader peace agreement with the United States.
Earlier on Monday, Israel carried out strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, reportedly without prior warning. The action came despite requests from its ally, the United States, to avoid further escalation. According to Israel, the strikes followed attacks by Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters, who allegedly fired at Israeli targets on Sunday.
Meanwhile, following Iran’s offensive on Sunday night, United States President Donald Trump reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch retaliatory strikes against Iran and instead allow diplomatic efforts to address the crisis. According to Axios, citing a senior United States official and an Israeli source familiar with the matter, Trump encouraged restraint and emphasized diplomacy as the preferred path forward.
The renewed Israel-Iran confrontation has intensified fears of a broader regional conflict, prompting calls from major nations, including India, for urgent diplomatic engagement, civilian protection and immediate efforts to prevent further destabilization of West Asia.
